Earning your Sport Pilot License
Like other kinds of aviation, trike flying has matured into a reliable, safe form of recreation. This type of flight is “taking-off” due to the creation of extensive pilot training and support programs, improvements in building materials and techniques, and strict maintenance schedules. Decades of research into the evolution of trikes and our pilot programs, have made trike flying one of the safest modes of adventure available.
At Air Therapy Aviation you can achieve the steps to earn your FAA Sport Pilot Certificate.
For your Sport Pilot license, the following requirements apply:
At least 17 years old to earn Sport Pilot Certificate.
- Able to read, speak, write, and understand English.
- Valid U.S. driver’s license, or a valid third class medical certificate.
- Obtain Student Pilot Certificate (From Local FAA Flight Standards District Office (FSDO)
At least 15 hours of flight instruction. (Although 20-25 hours is the norm).
At least 5 hours of solo flight.
Receive the necessary ground instruction.
Receive cross-country training and perform a cross-country flight while flying solo
Receive endorsements to take knowledge test (this can be through home study or from a CFI or CFIS).
Pass a written knowledge test conducted by an authorized FAA testing center.
Complete at least 3 hours of flight training with a CFI to prepare for practical test.
Pass an oral and flight test administered by an FAA examiner.
CELEBRATE yourself for accomplishing a wonderful goal.
Proficiency Checks
If you’re thinking of adding a “weight-shift control” endorsement to an existing pilot’s license, we are able to conduct weight shift control proficiency checks. If you’re a student pilot, we can help you get ready for your checkride (practical test).

Students will need the following materials to begin their training:

- Weight-Shift Control Aircraft Flying Handbook
- Pilot’s Handbook of Aeronautical Knowledge
- FAA Weight Shift Control Practical Test Standards
- E6-b or CS2 flight computer (manual, electronic, or ipod app)
